Dr. Steven Zweibel has joined Hartford Hospital’s medical staff as the Director of Cardiac Electrophysiology. In this capacity, Dr. Zweibel will oversee the Hospital’s Electrophysiology department and will be treating patients with complex electrical heart disorders, such as an irregular heart beat. Hartford Hospital, Lahey Clinic in Burlington, Mass. and UMass Memorial Medical Center in Worcester, Mass. have come together to complete the first-ever three-way organ exchange in New England.
A family member of a Hartford Hospital patient had intended to donate his kidney to the patient. However, it was soon determined the kidney was not a compatible match. Similarly, a family member of a patient at Lahey intended to donate his kidney to his relative, but was also unable to do so due to compatibility issues.

Hartford Hospital was honored for its efforts in streamlining how certain types of ulcers are reported. The improved process is paperless, reducing paper waste while increasingly productivity. Formerly, data was manually entered and calculated to develop reports; the new paperless system allows for immediate data entry and automatic reporting.
| | full article | | | | Hartford Hospital Dental Clinic Receives State Grant | | 7/8/2008 | The Hartford Hospital Dental Clinic has received a grant from the Connecticut Department of Social Services, which will improve patient safety and quality of care.
According to the Department of Social Services, the grant was intended to “improve access to dental services and/or improve the quality of dental care provided to clients.” The Hartford Hospital Dental Clinic will utilize the funds to convert conventional X-ray units into a digital radiography system, reducing patient exposure to radiation by approximately 60 percent.

Hartford Hospital announced today it has received a $3M grant to fund a study that may radically transform cancer treatment. Total Cancer Care, conducted in partnership with the H. Lee Moffitt Cancer Center, will enable Hartford Hospital to employ researchers dedicated to examining how molecular and genetic information can help diagnose and treat cancer patients.
