Patients may be admitted to either the neuro-critical care unit, step-down unit or neurosurgical floor. All units have a team of social workers and nurse clinical care coordinators to care for patients and assist patient families.
Neurosciences/Neuro-Vascular Critical Care Unit
Our Neurosciences/Neuro-Vascular Critical Care Unit is located on the 9th floor of the North Building at Hartford Hospital. This is an 18 bed ICU staffed by neurointensivists, physician assistants, nurse practitioners, residents, certified neuro-critical care nurses, respiratory therapists, nurse case coordinators, social workers, as well as other various support staff. Patients receive exceptional care utilizing the most modern neuro monitoring techniques.
Our step-down unit allows for continued close critical care monitoring for patients’ who do not need a critical care unit. The nurses have specialized training.
The Neuroscience Unit is a dedicated neuroscience unit located on the 9th floor of the North Building (North 9) located on the same floor as the Neurosciences ICU.
The staff on North 9 are required to undergo extended neurosciences training. Patients may be seen by our team of physical therapists, occupational therapists, and speech therapists for specific rehabilitation needs. Hartford Hospital has a team of physiatrists on staff providing consultation for patients having suffered a stroke or traumatic brain injury. The case coordinators, who are registered nurses with neuroscience training, will work with patients, families and insurance companies to ensure a safe discharge whether it be to a rehab center or home.
The Spine Center at Hartford Hospital is located on the sixth floor in the Conklin building (CB6). Here you will find a dedicated team of professionals caring for those with diseases involving the spine. The Spine Center consists of neurosurgeons, orthopeadic surgeons , physician assistants, nurses , physical therapists and occupational therapists. (more)
