Age:
Volunteers are required, by regulations, to be a minimum of 14 years of age. Some departments have other age requirements - for example, Patient Care units, the Child Care Center, and the Auxiliary Store require volunteers to be at least 16 years old.

 

Health Screening:
Measles: All persons under the age of 35 must provide documentation of measles vaccination.
Tuberculosis: All volunteer applicants must provide documentation of a two-step tuberculin skin test (PPD) performed within the last 12 months, or have one administered before commencing volunteer activity. Volunteers are required to have the PPD updated on an annual basis. If there is ever a positive reaction the volunteer must provide documentation of a negative chest x-ray as follow-up.

 

Time:
Volunteers must commit to the minimum required volunteer time:

    * Teens - 30 hours minimum, over 4 consecutive weeks.
    * Adults - 3 hours per week for a minimum of 6 months

 

Uniform:  
Volunteers need to purchase their own uniforms, which are worn when at the hospital.
